In Person Learning
BirthdaysBirthdays are fun to celebrate! In our class we celebrate by sharing a birthday book! On your child's birthday, he/she is welcomed to bring in a copy of his or her favorite book. As our celebration the birthday student, myself, or family member may read the book. As a reminder only healthy snacks are permitted at school, even on birthdays. **We celebrate summer birthdays in June unless your child would like to celebrate his/her half-birthday. If your child does not celebrate his/her birthday please email me :) Classroom DonationsItems that are continuously needed throughout the school year:
-Kleenex tissues -Clorox/Lysol wipes -hand sanitizer -#2 pencils (Ticonderoga brand preferred) -packages of markers/gel pens -post-it notes (3x3, and 2x2) More specific items for our classroom can be found on my Amazon link found below. |
Wednesday FoldersWednesday Folders are our main paper mailing tool between school and home. On Wednesdays, as needed, your child will be sent home with their red Wednesday folder. Please return the folder the following day. Wednesday folders may include: work from the previous week, items from the office, upcoming event information, permission slips, etc.
Work that is sent home does not need to come back unless specified, so usually it comes back on Thursday empty. Please look through their classwork together and commend him/her for their effort! This folder can also be used for you to send important notes to school. I have told the students that our Wednesday Folders live in their backpacks, to ensure that aren't lost and are always returned to their "home" after they're reviewed. Lunch / Milk Money2023-24 lunches are now fully funded! Friday NotesFor the first few Fridays of school, I will send my weekly note in their Wednesday folder/backpack. Once I build a classroom list with all the emails, I will send one every Friday via email unless you specify that you would prefer a paper copy. This is the main way I will communicate with you about all the events and happenings within our classroom. If you do not use email I can provide printed copies. |
Homework
Research is an important driver when helping students grow and learn. Today research is telling us that there isn't a huge benefit to having daily homework in early childhood settings. Being reflective and thoughtful to what science is telling us, the first grade team has decided to not give paper homework this year. We will be sending home our unit family letters each month to help provide you with additional math tools/actives that pair with what we are currently doing in the classroom. Instead of daily homework, we ask you to build routines at home to help your child develop time management skills, responsibility, and additional learning opportunities.
These can include:
-daily chores (feeding a pet, making their bed, helping with dishes, setting the table, etc)
-thoughtful discussions at dinner
-nature walks
-journaling
-math activities (counting money, discussing and modeling fractions, addition and subtraction games, etc)
No homework means no paper homework. I do ask that your child reads for a minimum of 20 minutes per night to build fluency, enhance comprehension skills, and increase their exposure to text.
