This is a bit of a lengthy update for the week, but I wanted to share more resources (video explanations too) to help us feel like we have a grasp of what is to come.
Ann Arbor Public Schools is now transitioning to instructing new curriculum with our online learning platforms. Over the past three weeks the lessons and activities I've been sharing have been a review. I appreciate all of the participation and kind words during this time!! As a class we have really knocked this online learning out of the park! I cannot wait to continue
Thankfully the shift to new curriculum isn't that big of a shift for us. Like we’ve been doing, daily lessons will be posted and staggered throughout the morning. This allows students time to work on activities without feeling overwhelmed. No matter what time you login the lessons will always be available! During these past 3 weeks I have been deleting activities after the day is over to give everyone a fresh start. I will be changing this for the rest of the year. Starting Monday, April 13th weekly activities will still be posted at the same time, but they will remain up for the rest of the week.
Lessons will take place Monday-Thursday and Friday will be a day where students can catch up on content and/or have an opportunity to share their knowledge with a review activity. We are lucky that this shift isn’t large for us since we’ve been doing this for the past three weeks. The biggest change will be no new lessons on Friday and added science/social studies lessons throughout the week. Another change will be that I won’t be the only teacher teaching you. Each week the 1st grade team will be teaching a specific subject. The video lessons and activities will be made by that teacher, but the content will be delivered through our classroom SeeSaw like normal. This will ensure that every 1st grade student is receiving the same content and assignments. For the next two weeks I'll be teaching and creating the activities for literacy, Mrs. Carlin for math, and science and social studies by Mrs. Eckel. I will still be the person sharing these videos and activities in our classroom SeeSaw page.
What to expect with Online Learning :
1. Daily morning message
2. 3 Video Lessons and Activities Daily (Monday-Thursday) on SeeSaw
3. Friday will be a day for added review
4. I'll be sending a weekly plan in two forms each week. I created the "Quick Outline" to help condense information without feeling overwhelmed. On that document you'll see what we are learning for each subject, special area links for activities, and the link to the full outline. The full outline gives you detailed plans for every lesson with each activity attached. We honestly thought that was overwhelming so I condensed that into a "Quick Outline," but you'll be receiving both each week.
Please let me know if there's more I can do to support you and your family during this online learning time. I am more than happy to do parents only video chats too! I'm excited to share the learning and kickstart our first grade team online this Monday! Have a wonderful weekend and stay healthy.
