Happy Friday!

  • Reader’s Workshop: Our focus book this week was Chester. This hilarious book helped us to see that authors can write in nontraditional ways! Through this book we made connections to our own writing, focused on digraphs and narrowed in on character traits.

  • Math:  In math workshop we focused on using doubles facts to help us solve other number stories. For example, knowing 5+5=10 can help us solve 5+7 because you would just add 2 more to 10.

  • Social: This week we focused on washing our hands and helping to avoid the spread of germs

  • Science: We began our moon unit by asking ourselves why the moon seems to change! This week we made daily observations. We noticed that throughout the week we have been able to see more and more of the moon. We’re predicting that we might have a full moon soon!

  • Social Studies: This week we began discussing what it means to be a citizen.

  • Writer’s Workshop: We are using our knowledge of nonfiction text features and mentor texts to help us write our own nonfiction book. This week we focused on wrapping up our writing and researching photos to add to our text.

  • Head Lice: suggestions to help.
    • Wash and dry your child’s hats, coats, gloves, etc weekly. Lice cannot survive the high heat of the dryer.
    • Consider using Fairy Tales shampoo! I’ve been using this since I was in 5th grade. I’ve had head lice quite a few times as a child and this has helped to prevent it! It’s an all natural shampoo that has essential oils in it that lice don’t like. The link is attached below. I personally use the shampoo, conditioner, and the detangler spray daily. You can buy it at Target too :)
