Reader’s Workshop: We focused on building our workshop model. Ask your student what our reader’s workshop “looks like” and “sounds like.”
Math Workshop: We began to practice rotating through different math centers. This week we learned two new math games: rolling for 50 and domino top-it.
Social Studies: We discussed how each of us are unique and how we can make connections with others.
PLTW: We began PLTW this year! Project Lead the Way is a STEAM unit we do with our PLTW teacher. This unit lasts until about Thanksgiving. Ms. Schemanske will share messages along the way to let you know what we are doing during our unit.
Notes from the following week:
Lunch Recess: Dr. DeYoung has shared that rain or shine students will go out for lunch recess. Please be prepared by checking the weather and making sure your child has rain boots on those wet days :)
THANK YOU for the thoughtful donations!!
Accidents happen--please be sure your student has a change of clothes/masks in their backpack to support these accidents
Classroom Projects: This week we wrapped up our dino projects! We are going to put them up for display and then later send them home. Ask your child what they had their dino saying or thinking.
Curriculum Night: Tuesday, September 14th. There are two sessions 6:00-6:25pm and 6:30-7:00pm via Zoom. These sessions are exactly the same. During Curriculum Night, you will have a chance to hear about our 1st grade curriculum and building routines. Please email for the zoom link
Following your teacher session please join Dr. DeYoung at 7pm on September 14th for a whole school meeting. Please email for the zoom link
Virtual Coffee Hour: Last year I started an optional virtual coffee hour via Zoom to allow parents/guardians to ask questions or get support about our classroom and/or events. The goal for this time is to help build our connection and keep our conversations fluid throughout the year. This event is not a time to ask about progress on your students academic abilities but rather general classroom questions.Join me Sunday, September 12th via Zoom at 11am to ask questions or chat about our classroom this year. Please email for the zoom link
